UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
Exemption without credit – EX (E):
Students can apply to be exempted from previous succeded courses by giving a petition addressed to the Department Chair to University Archive at the base floor of the President’s Building within the first week of registrations.
(*) Transfer students’ succeded courses have already been evaluated during the application process. These students need not to make an additional application.
The Faculty Administrative Board decides whether or not a student will be considered as have spent one or more semesters from his / her maximum period of study. 5 courses with credit indicate having spent a semester. Courses which are exempted so are counted as exemption without credit and they are not included in accounting of GPA and cumulative GPA.
Students who have taken the determined grades from English Proficiency exams other than METU (TOEFL, IELTS etc.) are exempted from must courses of undergraduate programs (ENG 101) without credit.
Course exemption in transfers within METU
The Faculty Administrative Board decides whether or not a student will be considered as have spent one or more semesters from his / her maximum period of study. Students are exempted with credit and taken into account when calculating GPA and CGPA.
Since the exemption process of these students are made during transfer applicaitons, they do not need to make another application.
Exemption from must ENG 101 (with credit) / EX (AA)
Only the students who have taken 85 out of 100 in METU English Proficiency Exam can be exempted from must English Course ENG 101 (with credit) of the undergraduate program. The credit and (AA) grade of the course is counted in the cumulative GPA but not the GPA of the student.
Students who have taken determined grades from other exams (TOEFL, IELTS) are exempted from must English course(ENG 101) (without credit) of the undergraduate program.
Students of Foreign Language Teaching department can not be exempted from ENG 101
Courses which are taken from out of METU in special student status while studying at METU
To be able to be exempted from these courses, they should be taken from an equivalent university. Faculty Administrative Board decides about the equivalence.
Must courses cannot be taken in this status and having done so does not wave the requirement.
Students in “suspension” status cannot take courses in this status.
Courses taken form other universities to be exempted from are considered as courses without credit. Therefore, Students cannot take already taken courses with successful, unsuccessful or withdrawal grades from other universities to be exempted in METU.
Maximum two courses can be taken in this status during education.
Students who have transferred from another university and continuing their program in METU cannot take course in this status.
Courses which are taken from out of METU in special student status while studying at METU in Summer School:
GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Graduate students who have attended to a graduate program in METU or another university can apply to be exempted from the equivalent courses, which they have taken and passed in their previous programs. These students should write a petition addressing to their department and along with their official transcript, submit it to the Department Chair, during the first semester, in which they have been accepted to METU. Courses that are accepted for exemption by the Administrative Committee of the concerned Graduate School will be given “non-credit” status and will not be included in the computation of the CGPA.
The graduate courses, that have been taken in METU as a special or regular student or in conditional program, are counted to CGPA and semester GPA if exempted.
