ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
According to regulations, all students (except international students who are native speakers in English) have to submit English Proficiency Certificate in order to be able to start graduate programs.

You are recommended to read the information in “APPLICATIONS FOR ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EXAM” carefully.

Validity of all English Proficiency Exams, of which equivalence are accepted by the University Senate, are two years. During the application, language certificates which are older than two years will not be accepted. The certificate which is valid during the application to the Program is valid during the registration as well.

Students who have become graduate students in METU for minimum one semester during the last four semesters do not have to submit an English Proficiency certificate. They are registered to the program directly.

Students at the stage of PhD qualification do not have to submit a new English Proficiency certificate. Their certificate which they submitted during the application to the program is valid.

Students who have been accepted to the programs of Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences are not given additional time to learn English. During the application, students are supposed to submit their “starting semester to program” as the semester in which they can submit their English proficency certificates. The student is recommended to mark next semester or the semester after that as starting semester.

For the departments of graduate schools mentioned below, students who have been accepted to graduate or PhD programs, however, have failed in METU English Proficiency Exam or do not have a valid international English proficiency exam result have the right to enter METU English Proficiency Exam which will be held within 1 year.
