APPLICATION TO UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
(NEW!!!)
Students who have graduated from high schools, lyceums or equivalent institutions and who satisfy the application criteria may apply to undergraduate programs in Middle East Technical University. There are limited quotas for foreign applicants to each of the undergraduate programs in our university and these quotas are mentioned below.
Applications which do not fullfil the criteria will not be evaluated. Minimum required scores mentioned below are obligatory for application. Even if there is offered extra quota during the registrations, lower scores will not be accepted.
Due to the intensity of the applications, it is not possible to give feedback to the applicants about the arrival of their documents. Please contact the relevant courrier company to learn whether your documents arrived or not.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
•Having graduated from high schools, lyceums or equivalent institutions.
•Holding the nationality of a country other than the Republic of Turkey or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus , and not having dual nationality rights, one of which is for the countries named above.
•To submit an exam result which METU accepts. The list of these exams are below.
EXAM RESULTS WHICH CAN BE SUBMITTED FOR APPLICATION
(A sufficient score from any one of these exams is required)
(All the exam results are valid for only two years.)
• YÖS (University Entrance Examination for International Students): Students must have entered YÖS in 2008 or 2009
For application to Engineering, Architecture and Economic and Administrative Sciences faculties: a minimum score of 60,
For application to Arts and Sciences and Education faculties: a minimum score of 55 is required.

Minimum YOS Scores for Entering METU in Previous Years
• SAT Reasoning : A total of 1100 out of 1600 from Math and Critical Reading sections and minimum 680 out of 800 from Math in SAT Reasoning test.
• Tawjihi : (for students from Jordan and Palestine )
For application to Engineering and Architecture Faculties and scientific programs: a percentage average of above 80 % from Scientific Stream.
For application to other programs: a percantage avarage of above 80% from all courses (Scientific and Literary Stream).
• GCE (General Certificate Examination): At least three A Levels (Advanced Level) and two IGCSE Levels(or O levels), with C avarage one of which is related to the program being applied to; or 2 A Levels and 4 IGCSE Levels (or O levels) with C avarage one of which is releted to the program being applied to.
* Note: Two AS levels is accepted as equivalent to one A level.
• Baccalauréat Libanais:(For students from Lebanese)
For application to Engineering and Architecture Faculties and scientific programs: a percentage average of above 70 % from Scientific Stream.
For application to other programs: a percantage avarage of above 70% from all courses (Scientific and Literary Stream).
• International Baccalaureate: A total score of minimum 30.
• International Science Olympiads: A gold, silver or bronze medal from one of these olympiads that are recognized by Scientific and Technical Research Council of the Turkish Republic (TUBITAK).
• University Entrance Examination in China (Gaokao): A score of minimum 500 (out of 750) from the stream related to the program being applied to.
• Diplome Debirestan and Pishdaneshgahi : (for students from Iran) A minimum average of 17 out of 20 from Diplome Debirestan and a minimum average of 17 out of 20 from Pishdaneshgahi.
• Al-Shahada-Al-Thanawiyya (Baccalaureate) (for students from Syria):
For the programs in the Faculties of Engineering, Architecture and Scientific Programs: A score of 195 (out of 240) from Scientific Stream
For other programs: A score of 185 (out of 240) from Scientific and Literary Streams.
•National University Test (for students from Kazakhstan): A score of 90 out of 120
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION
(All the documents should be attested copies. You can make your documents attested here during the registration, if you show the originals. Photocopies without original stamp and signature or documents sent by fax or e-mail are not acceptable. All documents should be either in Turkish or in English. Applications with lacking documents are not accepted.)

2. High School Diploma : Attested/notarized copy of high school diploma in English or in Turkish is required. It is possible to get your diploma attested during the application by showing its original. Those who have not taken their diploma yet should submit an official letter from their high school mentinoning that they are expected to graduate. (An Equivalence Letter from Ministry of Education of Turkey certifying that your diploma is equivalent to a Turkish High School Diploma will be required during registration )
3. Official Transcript : Original of your official transcript (sealed and approved by your High School) showing your high school courses and grades and its translated copy (English or Turkish). If you are a student of a university or if you have completed your studies in any other university, we highly recommend you to send a transcript from your university together with your high school transcript to support your application. METU students should indicate their student ID numbers on their application form.
4. Exam Result:Original or attested copy of the exam result that is being used for application (YÖS, SAT, GCE, Tawjihi, etc.). Only the exams listed above are accepted. It is not possible to apply with other exams.
5. Passport Copy: Photocopy of the identification page (with the photograph) is required. Only photocopy is enough, attested copy is not required. Applicants who do not have a passport may not submit it.
6. Two Photographs: Male students should appear beardless and female students should appear without headscarf (without any cover on head and neck) in their photos. Photocopies are not accepted. Photo size should be 4.5x6.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
YÖS Application Deadline: JULY 03, 2009
Most of the quota will be filled in this early (first-round) placement. The purpose of this early placement is to provide applicants sufficient time for preparation and visa procedure. Therefore, students who will apply with YÖS exam must apply within this period. Other students who will apply with different exam scores, should apply within this period as well, if their documents are complete.
Late Application Deadline: AUGUST 14, 2009
The purpose of this late placement is to provide the opportunity of application to the students whose exams are announced late. This period is only for these applicants and those who have a valid excuse for late application.

NOTE: Applicants can apply to both campuses (METU Main Campus and METU Northern Cyprus Campus) at the same time. In that case, there is no need to pay the application fee twice.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
The medium of instruction in the University is English.
So, students who do not submit a valid English Profiency Exam Result (TOEFL, IELTS or METU English Proficiency Exam) during the registration will have to attend English Preparatory Class in the Department of Basic English.
Students who submit a valid English Proficiency Exam Result (TOEFL, IELTS or METU English Proficiency Exam) during the registration will be exempted from English Preparatory Class and will directly start their undergraduate courses.

IMPORTANT NOTES
Please note that it is at METU's sole discretion to review and rank candidates, and to admit and place them within program quotas, space permitting. Meeting the application criteria does not guarantee admission to the programs.
Candidates' application documents will be evaluated by the relevant Faculty's Admission Committee.
Results will be announced on this page. Moreover, students who have been accepted to a program will submit a confirmation letter to us (a letter which shows that you will com efor registration) and then receive a Letter of Acceptance from METU, by which they have to apply for a “Student Visa” to the nearest Turkish Consulate. This student visa is required for registration.
After the announcement of results, students who do not send a confirmation letter will lose their right to register.
Accepted students will pay the tuition fee of the first semester until the beginning of classes. Otherwise, they will lose the right to register. Those who do not come for registration will be able to take the 50% of the fee back if he/she applies until a certain date. The tuition fee amounts mentioned in the link below is for 2008-2009 Academic Year. These amounts may change next academic year.

METU does not provide any scholarship for international students.
All international students are required to have health insurance, which costs 250-300USD annualy. Health insurance can be purchased during registrations.
